The difference
Most Link Cleaners Stop at the URL. Clean Links Follows It.
Stripping utm_source off a link you can already read is the easy part. Every link cleaner does it. The tracking that follows you moved out of sight, behind the short link. One tap on a bit.ly and you bounce through four servers before you land, and each one tags you on the way past.
Clean Links follows the link all the way down. Every redirect, up to ten hops, across more than 600 shorteners. It strips the trackers at each one before moving to the next. Not just the URL you pasted. The whole chain.
Then it does the chasing without leaving a trace of you. Every hop goes out cookieless, with a fresh browser-style User-Agent. Where resolver egress is enabled, it also goes through a rotating ProtonVPN route instead of exposing your device. The sites you unmask never see who is looking, and full links are not stored. You leave with one clean link, and that is the only thing that survives.
One short link. Four hops. Every tracker gone.

Every Hop, Not Just the First
Follows up to 10 redirects across 600+ shorteners like bit.ly, t.co, TikTok, and Amazon, and strips the trackers at every one.
Invisible While It Works
Each hop goes out cookieless, with a different browser-style User-Agent. Where resolver egress is enabled, ProtonVPN handles the route. The sites never see you coming.
Nothing Kept
No account, no stored links, no link history. The clean link is the only thing that leaves with you.
ProtonVPN routing applies to the web cleaner where resolver egress is enabled. The Clean Links app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac cleans on your device, with no server in the middle.
What Is a Link Cleaner?
A link cleaner strips tracking parameters from a URL before you share it. Links you copy from apps and search results carry extra baggage — utm_source, fbclid, gclid, igshid, si — that tells advertisers who shared what, and where. The link works exactly the same without it.
Paste a link above and Clean Links removes those parameters, expands shortened URLs like bit.ly and t.co, and shows the full redirect chain so you can see where a link really goes. No account and no extension required — it runs in any browser, and you can install it as an app.
Cleaning links from one app all the time? The dedicated platform pages explain exactly which trackers each service adds: TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Amazon.
Clean Links FAQ
Cleaning a URL means stripping the tracking parameters and redirect wrappers from a link without changing where it goes. Tags such as utm_source, fbclid, and gclid record who shared the link and what was clicked, and short-link wrappers like bit.ly or t.co hide the real destination until you open them. A clean URL drops that tracking, keeps any parameter the page genuinely needs, and still opens the same content.
The Apple apps clean links on-device. When a shortlink or redirect has to be resolved, your device makes the request in an isolated, cookie-free context with a randomized user agent. The web cleaner currently sends the link to the Clean Links API because shipping the full rule engine to every browser would make the tool heavy and slow. We do not log what you paste, store cleaned links, or tie those requests to an account, and we are working on a WASM version that will move the web cleaner fully into your browser.
No. By design, Clean Links does not log or store links you clean or check.
Most tracking parameters are now hidden behind redirects such as t.co, l.facebook.com, l.instagram.com, and lnkd.in - you cannot see these parameters until you click. Clean Links automatically handles this for you, saving you from tedious manual work and protecting you from hidden trackers.
Clean a Link Right Here
Paste any link to strip trackers and unwrap short links. Works in any browser with no account; recent-link history stays in this browser.
Why we built Clean Links
Someone Close to Us Got Scammed by a QR Code. We Did Something About It.
Someone close to us scanned a QR code on a parking meter, typed in their card details, and lost the money before they realized anything was off. A sticker had covered the real code, and the link behind it went somewhere else. We're two engineers in the EU who've spent years building privacy-first apps, and that was the push. We wanted a fast way to see where a link or QR code really goes before you tap it, and to strip the trackers off the ones we share. Clean Links now covers both cases: the Apple apps scan and clean on your device, and the web cleaner lets you check a link in the browser without an account. It's free, and we'd rather earn a spot on your home screen than sell you out.
